Glazes
Information about our glazes
- Most of our glazes are suitable for food. If this is not the case, we expressly point this out.
- Our glazes are environmentally friendly and vegan.
- Our glazes are non-toxic. No toxic vapours are produced during firing either. If a slightly unpleasant odour is produced during firing, this is due to the burning of the organic adhesive (usually gum arabic). For this reason, we recommend ventilating the workshop well, even if there is no danger from the vapours.
- When firing reds, it is important that there is sufficient oxygen in the kiln so that the colour is retained. Therefore, make sure that the kiln is not completely full.

Mayco Stroke and Coat
EASY TO USE:
Stroke & Coat can be applied with a brush, a stamp, or by dabbing. They are non-toxic and food-safe. It's also ideal for children! Simply wash off any traces from skin or clothing with water.
VERSATILE :
Stroke & Coat can be used on both earthenware and stoneware. Here are almost no changes in the color tones, which means that finally also bright colors can be achieved in the high temperature ranges.
FURTHERMORE :
Stroke & Coat can be applied directly onto Greenware (unfired clay, damp or dry). Perfect to use in schools and kindergartens! The bisque firing is not necessary.
OVER 100 DIFFERENT COLORS AND TONES:
Over 100 different colors are available. Is the color you want not among them? Then create it by mixing the colors! All Stroke & Coat Colors can easily be mixed. For a gentle tone, you can dilute these colors, with water (1–2 drops/tablespoon).
APPLICATION :
Stroke & Coat paints are translucent. With only one coat of paint the paintbrush strokes are still visible after firing. For some patterns and designs a desired effect. If, however, you wish the surface fully concealed, then you should paint the surface two to three times, in between always waiting, that the last layer is no longer shiny.
VARIABLE COOKING TEMPERATURE:
Stroke & Coat-Colors will reach their full glowing potential as of 999°C, but the paints can even be used in kilns as hot as 1250°C!
GLAZE:
Stroke & Coat can be glazed with any transparent glaze. Objects with fully painted surfaces can also be fired without a transparent glaze. Stroke & Coat are not only paints, but also color glazes.
Mayco Foundations
A PERFECT BASE FOR A PERFECT DESIGN
Foundations are easy-to-use all-over coverage glazes perfect for base coating. They can be used as background colors, decorative colors and purely as a color glaze.
A PERFECT COVER:
With Foundations, the ceramic receives a perfectly covering primer as a base, on which each design can then be painted with Stroke & Coat colors. The foundations have been specially designed to be combined with Stroke & Coat. Their thin and delicate consistency makes their application child's play, as the foundations spread well and evenly on the ceramic. By applying it two to three times, you achieve a perfectly covering surface.
SPECIAL ADVANTAGE:
Bisques that have been fully primed with Foundations no longer need to be clear-glazed. This saves you time and expense for clear-glazing. Of course, foundations can also be clear-glazed if necessary (if a part has not been fully painted).
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
1. Choose the color.
2. Using a wide brush, apply a base coat over the entire surface of the ceramic piece. Apply two to three coats, allowing to dry between coats.
3. Paint your pattern/design over the base coat with Stroke & Coat paint.

Duncan EZ-Strokes
Intensely pigmented, translucent underglaze colors for fine painting and watercolor painting on bisque. EZ Stroke paints can be mixed with each other to create additional shades. They remain translucent even when one color is applied over another. They are not for opaque application, but are suitable for design work, simulated porcelain painting techniques, watercolor work and any other technique where a shaded or two-tone effect is desired. They are also the preferred underglaze color medium for outlining and detailing, including eyes, lettering and accenting designs. EZ Stroke translucent underglaze colors must be glazed transparent or they will remain rough.
- EZ Stroke can be applied to raw ceramics, greenware and glazed unfired ceramics (Majolica).
- They should be thinned with water or Thin 'n Shade to a consistency no heavier than light cream and applied in one or two thin coats, not one thick coat. Too thick an application can create a textured effect or bubbles on the paint surface.
- Put some EZ Stroke on a glazed tile or palette so you can better control the amount of paint pickup with the brush. Apply one coat. Use as large a brush as possible and keep it well saturated to achieve even brush strokes. If your brush seems to drag on the ceramic when applying, the paint is too thick and you will need a drop or two of water or Thin 'n Shade to thin the paint to the right consistency.
- Majolica technique: EZ Stroke colors can be used over unfired, non-moving glazes (e.g. Foundations, Stroke & Coat).
- As a colorant: those colors can be used to color French Dimensions (mixing ratio 50:50)
- They are also ideal for coloring or marbling ceramic or porcelain casting slip, as they are strong, highly concentrated colors.
